ACC Library Services partners with the ACC’s Student Affairs Student Support Center to provide access to a physical textbook collection of just over 2100 items, which are purchased annually with federal grant dollars.

When access to campuses and libraries is possible, students access the collection and check out textbooks for the entire semester. With physical library spaces now temporarily closed, faculty librarians are working remotely to analyze the collection title-by-title for online alternatives, including our own licensed e-book collection; open educational resources; free, vetted web-based materials; or, if possible, temporarily free versions from publishers. The project is presenting exciting, expanded opportunities for valuable conversations between classroom faculty and faculty librarians about the importance of course materials which both allow for pedagogical flexibility and which remove access barriers for students.

In addition, the project illustrates the vision of how open educational resources can be long-term solutions for cost and availability issues, as well as the critical need for dynamic content for curriculum support resources.
