Austin Community College (ACC) continues to support future faculty Textbook Heroes who are transitioning to OER. In early April, the ACC OER Task Force announced another round of faculty OER stipends. The cohort is supported through an online training program, ACC Learn OER, virtual OER consultations with librarians, and weekly virtual OER Cafes hosted by faculty, librarians, instructional designers, and instructional web staff. This faculty incentive program is one of the direct tactics for the college’s work this year in the OpenStax Institutional Partnership program. Twelve faculty members from Workforce programs–American Sign Language Interpreter Training, Child Care & Development, Diagnostic Medical Imaging, Engineering Technologies, Fashion Design, GIS, Hospitality Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Welding Technology, and Visual Communication–will be working to adopt or create OER for their Fall 2020 courses. Initially, much of the work the Task Force had lined up to support this group was designed around in-person consultations and workshops. However, the Task Force quickly shifted support for this cohort to a diverse remote support network.
