Kobble itself uses markdown and JSON structures, stored in Github Gists, to store content.

Kobble has a nice design, but has a data model that sticks to terminology from streaming services like channel, playlists, and track, which is a bit strange for a note taking app.

Kobble claims to be the only note taking app where you own your data. This, of course, is an alternative fact. At least for Knowfox I am pretty sure that I own my data. And it is quite easy to install, too.

Nicely enough, the comment thread about Kobble collects a fair number of alternative note taking apps:

https://blankslate.io/

https://standardnotes.org/

http://public.docs.xstatic.site

Another list of alternative apps

https://leanote.com/

http://strlen.com/treesheets/

http://brettterpstra.com/projects/nvalt/

http://zim-wiki.org/

Any text editor + Syncthing https://syncthing.net/ + TagSpaces https://www.tagspaces.org/

http://www.qownnotes.org/

https://nimbus.everhelper.me/note.php

https://laverna.cc/

https://turtlapp.com/

https://simplenote.com/

http://www.wiz.cn/

https://keep.google.com

https://www.onenote.com/

http://happenapps.com/#quiver

http://getnotation.com/

http://www.fetchnotes.com/#/

http://www.resoph.com/ResophNotes/Welcome.html

http://www.connectedtext.com/

http://rednotebook.sourceforge.net/

http://www.notebooksapp.com/

http://keepnote.org/

http://cintanotes.com/

https://github.com/twostairs/paperwork

http://www.horstmuc.de/wmem.htm

When I decided to write Knowfox, I had a similar list.
